For ballast lead, you have come to the right place at Ballast-products.com. The lead products are available in various quantities and sizes. In addition to standard sizes, we also produce on request. Thus, we deliver custom-made products to the wishes of each customer, regardless of the industry in which you operate or the application.
The specific gravity (mass density) of lead is higher than that of concrete and steel. In addition, the material is widely available. This makes lead extremely suitable as ballast for various applications. Especially when a structure or machine needs to be balanced that has a large weight of its own, while space is limited. Ballast lead blocks and lead pellets are widely used in shipping, as a counterweight for bridges and cranes but also for stabilizing machinery.
Due to the high mass density of ballast lead, you need smaller quantities to achieve the same counterweight, compared to other materials. Yet that is not the only advantage. In fact, the material is also virtually one hundred percent recycled. A nice thought, especially when you need it for a limited period of time. In addition, lead is corrosion resistant, can be easily machined and molded into any desired shape.
The most commonly used product is the lead block. Again, it is available in different shapes and sizes. In our web shop you will see the standard sizes, but we also provide custom sizes. You can purchase the lead blocks individually, but you can also order one or more pallets. Lead blocks are used when a high ballast weight is required and there are fewer space constraints. The lead blocks you find in our web shop are characterized by their handy dimensions. Could you use some help in determining how much you need? Then don’t hesitate to contact us for options and costs….
Ballast lead pellets are also known as lead shot. These lead pellets make it possible to determine weight to the nearest kilogram. In addition, they are useful for getting to hard-to-reach areas. Lead shot has a lower specific gravity than lead blocks and is ideal as ballast in boats. A great application is the combination with lead blocks, to fill the spaces left over. Our lead pellets are available in 5 kilo, 10 kilo and 20 kilo bags, but can also be supplied in Big Bags. They provide a versatile bulk weight and are a very economical option in many situations. The pellets are also suitable for filling smaller cavities such as cracks.
Ballast lead is crucial for ensuring stable and evenly distributed weight in boats and ships, among other things. In addition to these purposes, it is also used as a counterweight for cranes and bridges, as well as for elevators and other heavy lifting equipment.
Specific gravity, also called specific mass, refers to the density of a material. It always looks at the ratio of mass to volume of a material, compared to that same ratio for water. With lead, there is high mass for relatively little volume. So this metal has a high specific gravity.
Unfortunately, there is no standard answer to this question. There are special calculation formulas that allow you to determine how much ballast lead your vessel needs. An important advantage of lead is that it requires relatively little volume to form a dense mass. Ballast Products is happy to assist you in calculating the amount of lead ballast required.
Ballast lead can be used in all kinds of vessels, of the most diverse types and sizes. It allows the boat to be better balanced and thus gain more stability. For example, ballast lead can allow the boat to lie deeper in the water so that the wind has less of a hold on it.
